What Is Kalex? (Company Background)
Kalex is a small German engineering outfit founded by Klaus Zeller, and if you've watched a Moto2 race in the last decade, you've watched a Kalex frame win it more often than not. What started as a chassis project in 2010 turned into the closest thing intermediate-class racing has to a monopoly — not because the rules favor them, but because their frame geometry simply works better with the spec Triumph engine than almost anything else on the grid.
At Kode Engine, the material is ours: we're the commercial arm of Team Stylobike, our own Moto2 race team, so the Kalex parts we sell come from equipment our own bikes have actually raced on — not a generic aftermarket copy.
Kalex Chassis Anatomy: What Makes It Fast
The Kalex frame is an aluminum twin-spar design, built around controlled flex rather than raw stiffness. That distinction matters more than it sounds: Moto2 bikes all run the same 765cc Triumph triple, so the chassis is where teams actually find lap time. Kalex tuned their frame and swingarm flex characteristics specifically to load the rear tire predictably under the engine's power delivery, which is a large part of why it's stayed competitive across so many rule cycles.
Subframes, swingarms, and complete rolling chassis all follow the same design philosophy — purpose-built around one engine, not adapted from something else.
Kalex vs. Other Moto2 Chassis (Boscoscuro, KTM, NTS)
To be fair to the rest of the grid: Boscoscuro, KTM, and NTS all build legitimate Moto2-spec chassis, and Boscoscuro in particular has taken race wins in recent seasons. What sets Kalex apart isn't that it's unbeatable — it's that a larger share of the grid runs it, which means more units cycle through teams every season and more genuine parts end up available on the used market.
Where to Find Genuine Kalex Components
We don't keep a fixed catalog of Kalex-branded chassis parts online — availability moves too fast for that, and most of what we source sells directly to teams and collectors before it's ever listed. What we do have is a dedicated Kalex parts category and the full Moto2 catalog for everything currently in stock around the platform — swingarms, subframes, bodywork, and the suspension and braking components that mount to it.
Buying Used vs. New Kalex Parts: What to Check
A used Kalex swingarm and a new one aren't the same purchase, even if they look identical in a photo. Ask for clear photos of any stress cracking around mounting points, confirm the actual season the part raced, and check whether it retains its FIM homologation markings. We document all of this upfront on every listing in our broader Moto2 Championship Parts collection, precisely because condition and race history are what separate a real racing part from a story.
Kalex Moto2 FAQ
What is Kalex in Moto2?
Kalex is a German chassis manufacturer founded by Klaus Zeller. Since the early 2010s, Kalex-built aluminum twin-spar frames have become the dominant chassis platform in the Moto2 World Championship, winning the vast majority of rider and constructor titles.
Is the Kalex chassis available for street bikes?
No. The Kalex Moto2 chassis is a purpose-built racing frame designed exclusively around the spec Triumph 765cc Moto2 engine and championship regulations. It is not homologated or sold as a street-legal product.
How much does a Kalex Moto2 chassis cost?
Pricing depends heavily on condition, age, and whether the frame comes as a rolling chassis or standalone component. Because these parts come from our own Moto2 race team rather than a retail price list, we quote based on the specific unit available — contact us for current availability and pricing.
Where can I buy genuine Kalex Moto2 parts?
Our Kalex chassis components, swingarms, and subframes come from Team Stylobike, our own Moto2 race team, as we upgrade equipment between seasons. Browse our Kalex category or message us directly, since availability changes frequently and much of what becomes available never makes it to a public listing before it sells.
What's the difference between Kalex and other Moto2 chassis brands?
Kalex, Boscoscuro, KTM, and NTS all build Moto2-spec frames around the same Triumph engine, but Kalex has held the largest grid share for over a decade. The practical difference for buyers is availability: Kalex parts are more common in the used market simply because more teams run them.
